Toddler's Foreskin is red?

My parents weren't as kind as my wife and I when our son was born so I have no experience with these issues, however from time to time it looks kinda red and irritated at the tip. What can I do for him about this? He takes a bath or shower ever other day at least, usually every day, and it doesn't retract past the head yet but we usually give it a little stretch over the head in the bath which is what his ped recomended until it clears the head. I have read that this is normal and it means the foreskin is protecting the head, but it is somewhat concerning to see. Any thoughts on this, I think we may bring him in to his doctor monday morning about it, but in the meantime?
