OMFG HUNTED:THE DEMON'S FORGE too hard?

Does anyone else find this game extremely difficult on split screen coop? It takes forever to kill one enemy and I get killed after being hit only a few times, even blocking your shield breaks after only a few blows..regen viles are very rare so we are constantly unable to revive each other...thus we die...any tips?
